HTC rumored to make 2016 Nexus phones

According to a Twitter rumor, HTC is going to manufacture the next Nexus phones later this year.

Rumors of HTC making the next Nexus phones started a while ago and now a trusted HTC leaker LlabTooFeR tweeted telling the codenames for the devices.

The codenames are T50 and T55. The closest codename to them is T6 which was sold as One Max, a 6″ phablet. If that is to be compared, the 2016 Nexus phones might have 5″ and 5.5″  displays.

So what to expect? Obviously HTC is known for its design and build quality as well as the Boomsound speakers. After two years Google probably doesn’t want to go back to LCD displays in its flagship so an AMOLED panel might be a necessity. Also the huge top and bottom bezels could be shrieked and the camera should possibly be made by someone else than HTC.

Nexus 6P bends really easily

nexus-6p

Bendgate is back. This time it’s the Google’s flagship phone that gets destroyed completely.

A YouTuber called JerryRigEverything has released a video that reveals the weak structure of the Google Nexus 6P. The video shows that bending the Huawei built flagship phone doesn’t need too much force.

In the video Jerry points out that the 6P has a free floating aluminium back inside the outer case. They are held together by a plastic piece which is connected to the inner aluminium body with so called dovetail joints.

The other weak part is the positioning of the sleep and wake button. It’s placed perfectly at the place motherboard ends and the battery starts. As the aluminium is at its thinnest at the same point, it’s a natural place for the device to break in half.

The weakness of possibly the best Android phone of the year is alerting. Even though the phone needs to be bend just right to get it broke that spectacularly, smaller damage can be made more easily. Hopefully Google or Huawei steps up and explains the situation. Apple did replace some of the bent iPhone 6 Plus devices last year, will Google and Huawei do the same?

Pixel C brings Android to Pixel lineup

At the Nexus event, Google also unveiled an Android-based tablet called Pixel C. The premium tablet competes with Surface and iPad Pro.

So there’s no Nexus tablet this year. Instead we get the Pixel C, a Google designed and built premium tablet running Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It has a 10.2″ 2560x1800p LCD display, NVIDIA Tegra X1 SoC, 3GB of RAM and a USB Type-C charging port. The industrial design is inspired by previous Pixel products with boxy angles and understated details. The bezels are relatively large and the back has the light bar previously seen in Chromebook Pixel. The bar shows battery charge when double tapped.

The keyboard is a paid accessory but a major selling point. It connects with strong magnets and can be adjusted to an angle between 100° and 130° without a kickstand. The keyboard charges wirelessly when folded against the tablet and doesn’t need to be charged via cable.

The Pixel C starts at $499 and the keyboard costs $149. Both will be available for holidays.

Nexus 6P leaks suggest AMOLED display and a big battery

nexus-6p-slide-1

As we are getting closer to the official release, the Nexus 6P has started leaking even more. Now we have a complete slide show presentation about the bigger Nexus.

The full presentation, linked below, reveals almost everything we want to know about the upcoming Nexus 6P. Previously rumored 5.7″ QHD display and a Snapdragon 810 are confirmed and the impressive battery capacity, 3450mAh, is also leaked. USB Type-C and dual front facing speakers are also included as well as the storage and color options. The storage capacity options are 32, 64 and 128GB and the colors are the same that were leaked previously, white, aluminium, gold and black.

We were still missing some features but the rest of the presentation was uploaded to Google Drive. An AMOLED display, 3GB of RAM and 12/8MP cameras were leaked. Also the physical size of the device was included in the slides. The 6P measures at 159.4 x 77.8 x 7.3mm, slightly narrower and thinner than the Nexus 6 but the same in height.

All we are now missing is the price. The Nexus 5X will be the more affordable one but Google should have learned from last year, the Nexus 6 was just too expensive for some. The Nexus event is supposed to happen tomorrow and we will keep you posted.

Latest leaks reveal Nexus color options

nexus-6p-colors

This year’s Nexus event is getting closer and we are hearing even more rumors and leaks. The latest leak is about the colors of the new Nexus devices.

The Huawei built premium Nexus, the 6P has its metal body available in four colors, aluminium, black, white and gold. The difference between aluminium and white is really minor but most likely the colors will be different in real life. Other rumors still claim 5.7″ QHD display, Snapdragon 810 SoC and a great camera.

The more affordable, LG made Nexus 5X has a more understated plastic design and with it, plastic colors. The usual black and white have an “ice blue” color alongside them. In the rendered image, the color looks more like green but again, it has to be seen in real life.

The Nexus 5X is rumored to feature a 5.2″ Full HD display, 600-series Snapdragon SoC and a very affordable price tag. Google is expected to release the new Nexus phones on 29 September.

The leaks reveal a huge camera bump with no obvious reason. The photos match the previous leaks.

The Huawei built Nexus 6 2015 continues to leak. The new photos from China are showing an interesting camera bump. The Nexus 6 is not going to be a particularly thin device so the camera bump is rumored to feature something special. The fingerprint sensor is on the back like the previous leaks suggested.

Front of the device shows dual speakers and quite narrow bezels.

Photos from another source also confirm the rumored reversible USB Type-C.

The new leaks are pretty much in line with what we already knew. The Huawei Nexus is going to be the premium Nexus and LG is going to build the more affordable Nexus 5 2015. The new Nexus phones will most likely be released in late September or early October and the launch will will happen later this year.

2015 Nexus leaks

nexus_5_2015_leak_1

Nexus rumors are flooding in right now. Here’s a package of what we know by now.

Tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee recently posted a picture of the upcoming Nexus 5 2015 smartphone. The picture reveals a fingerprint scanner and a laser auto focusing module on the back of the device. It also confirms the previous leaks by OnLeaks and uSwitch.

The Nexus 5 2015 is probably going to feature a 5.2″ display, a USB Type-C connector and Android M. The leaks are in line with the releases Google made in Google I/O. Google added APIs for fingerprint sensors and USB Type-C.

Interestingly power and volume buttons seem to be on the side, not in the back like in LG’s previous phones. It’s also noticeable that after Apple made protruding OK with their last year flagships, LG has also decided to include one with the new Nexus despite the fact that its current flagship G4 doesn’t have one. Most likely the camera is going to be the same that the G4 had which is going to lift Nexus cameras to a new level because G4’s camera is one of the best in the market.

huawei_nexus_leak_1

OnLeaks and uSwitch also leaked the other upcoming Nexus phone.  Huawei Nexus features the same fingerprint scanner on the back and also a USB Type-C connector. Huawei Nexus will probably be called Nexus 6 and it’s going to replace Motorola Nexus 6.

Nexus 6 is going to have a 5.7″ display, possibly QHD. USwitch also knows that Huawei has tested a 5.5″ model but ended up with the larger one.

Nexus 6 is going to have a premium design and materials while Nexus 5 is going to have a plastic unibody design. That also suggests that the Nexus 6 is going to have a premium price while Nexus 5 is going to compete in a more affordable price range.

According to leaks, both Nexus phones are releasing in late September or early October and launching later this year. Hopefully Google orders enough phones from manufacturers this time. Experiences with Nexus 4 and 5 launches a couple of years ago weren’t very positive.

Top 5 upcoming smartphones July 2015

2015 has been a great year. Competition between manufacturers and price ranges has been tough. There has been ultimate flagships like Samsung Galaxy S6, LG G4 and HTC One M9 but also new affordable smartphones are rising all the time. Asus ZenFone 2 packs high end specs with very affordable price and the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 does the same.

After a rather quiet summer, the fall is going to be full of great smartphone releases. I’ve listed my top 5 upcoming smartphones below. Add your top 5 to the comments.

TOP 5 – Motorola Moto G

Last two years Motorola has dominated the cheap Android market with their Moto G. It packed stock Android and brilliant specs to the price. Now it has competition. Asus and Alcatel have entered the affordable market with their flagship spec devices and Motorola should release something rather great to keep the title of the best cheap Android phone.

The upcoming Moto G should have a great display, likely a 1080p but for the price it’s not going to be AMOLED. Newer Snapdragon SoC’s are really capable so some 600-series one would be nice. Also it should have the latest stock Android and fast updates to Android M. All that should be under $200 and Motorola would have the best budget smartphone in the market.

TOP 4 – Apple iPhone 6s Plus

Apple always gets most of the attention when they launch the new iPhones. This year is not going to be different. New Apple phones are going to sell like crazy no matter what they put to the table. I chose the Plus version to my list because it’s competitor to the Note series. Plus also – at least last year it did – packs better specs than the non Plus model. Apple won’t most likely change the resolution or the size of the screen but they’ll include the force touch technology and possibly a better camera.

My wish is that Apple would add some productivity and take more advantage of the big screen. That would force Samsung to make even better Note next year as this years Note is probably going to launch before the new iPhones.

TOP 3 – OnePlus 2

OnePlus has teased their upcoming smartphone for a while now. We know its price and most of the specs and we know that one is going to need an invite to get the phone. But is the competition from mid range smartphone too much. We have some brilliant new high-end spec smartphones for even more affordable price.

OnePlus’ success depends on the upcoming reviews. The price is coming up and the specs are not that mind boggling compared to others but the camera and the software can make the difference. Personally I don’t see OnePlus 2 being as successful as the One was.

TOP 2 – Google Nexus 5

As always, Google is going to release the new Android version in the fall. With it, there’s going to be a new Nexus and this year it’s most likely going to be a new Nexus 5. First Nexus 5 was announced back in 2013 and this new version is bringing Nexus back to more humane screens sizes after the hideous 6″ Nexus 6.

According to rumors, Huawei is going to make the new Nexus. Some leaked benchmarks already showed that it’s going to contain a 10-core Snapdragon 820 SoC and a QHD display. Along with Huawei’s premium design and the newest Android, the new Nexus is going to be the second most interesting smartphone of the fall.

TOP 1 – Samsung Galaxy Note 5

Samsung finally made a drastic change with the S6. They got rid of 40% of the bloatware and unwanted features as well as changed the design completely. The result was brilliant. Except the fact that the S6 has too small battery and display. Note 5 is going to be different. The Note is going to have a huge 4100mAh battery and keep the screen size in 5.7 inches.

This year the new Note is going to launch before new iPhones to give Samsung a little boost when trying to get some new Galaxy users. This means that Apple might need to think about adding some features to the new iPhones. Productivity and using the screen real estate have always been Note’s pros so if loyal Apple users shall watch what competitors have to offer, Note might win greatly.
