Asus has released their new ZenWatch 3 at IFA 2016. The watch continues where its predecessor left.
Priced at 229€, the Asus ZenWatch 3 is one of the most interesting new smartwatches around. Despite its price, the ZenWatch 3 is absolutely beautiful and crafted out of quality materials. The stainless steel body is joined by 2.5D Gorilla Glass on the front. All three color variants – blackish gray, gold and silver – have the gold ring around the display. The watchband is made out of either leather or silicone rubber.
One might think that Asus would have saved on the specs after that design and price tag but no. The 1.39″ round display uses AMOLED technology and 400×400 resolution. The watch is powered by the Snapdragon Wear 2100 SoC which is specially made for wearables and uses 25% less power than the last popular wearable chip, Snapdragon 400. The usual 512 MB RAM and 4 GB storage are still here, and the 340 mAh battery sadly sounds a bit like 2015. However, Asus has included their own fast charger that will top up the battery much faster than usual.
On the software side, the ZenWatch 3 runs the latest Android Wear 2.0 with Asus’s tweaks on top. The watch comes with fitness apps separate to Google’s own and packs a whopping 50+ watch faces out of the box.
The ZenWatch 3 will hit the markets later this year and as mentioned at 229€. The US pricing should be very similar to the euro pricing due to, well, EU-stuff.
Asus has revealed probably the world’s first water-cooled laptop. The ROG GX700 has an external radiator module and packs some hugely powerful hardware.
Asus has introduced a water-cooled laptop or portable computer. The GX700 has a 17″ 4K display, Intel Core i7-6820HK and an NVidia GeForce GTX 990M. The specifications are revealed by Hexus that has been able to use the computer at IFA 2015.
The GTX 990M is still unreleased GPU but the Windows 10 graphics card info page shows that the GX700 has 2048 CUDA cores instead of 1536 of the most powerful mobile NVidia GPU, the GTX 980M has.
The impressive specs don’t stop there. The CPU is very powerful overclockable 45 watt Skylake i7-6820HK and with the water-cooling it can reach 3.6GHz turbo speeds. The GX700 also packs 64GB of RAM and a pixel packed 17″ 4K display.
The water cooling needs an external radiator module to work but the laptop can be used without it with lower clock speeds. The module has quick adapters to connect the laptop to water cooling. Not much is official because the Asus press release just confirms Skylake CPU, GeForce GPU and the water cooling.

There has been a lot of talk about smartphone storage recently. Mostly because of lack of expandable storage in Samsung phones. Now Asus has released new interesting storage option for ZenFone 2.
Asus Zenfone 2 already had a 64GB variant with a microSD slot. The new model however packs a whopping 256GB of internal storage with microSD support for up to 128GB cards. The new model is called ZenFone 2 Deluxe Special Edition.
All the other specs match the original ZenFone 2 64GB model. Intel Atom Z3580 SoC, 4GB of RAM and 3000mAh battery are powering the 5.5″ Full HD display and Android 5.0 Lollipop.
There’s no information about pricing yet but the 64GB model costs around $300, so the 256GB model might be around $350. For now the Deluxe Special Editon is launching only in Brazil.
It’s good to see the smartphone storage sizes growing as at least the flagships are dropping the expandable storage option. These kind of internal storage sizes would keep even the power users happy.
