Sony Releases Three Xperia Z5 Models

Sony has just released three Xperia Z5 models, normal, Compact and the Premium with a 4K display.

Sony started the Xperia Z5 keynote by talking about the camera. Sony sensors are not only used in Sony phones. Samsung and others have used Sony sensors for a while now and the new Xperia Z5 uses the latest version of the Exmor RS sensor. 23 megapixel camera also takes the image stabilization to the new level. The autofocus is Sony’s fastest yet with 30ms focusing. The camera should also be able to 5 times zoom in without loosing details and it should handle low light situations better. The front facing shooter is 5MP wide angle one and it can shoot 1080p video.

The most noticeable difference between the three model is the size. The Xperia Z5 has a 5.2″ 1080p display, the Z5 Compact packs a 4.6″ 720p display and the Premium model has a stunning 5.5″ 2160p 4K display with Sony’s 4K upscaling for sub-4K content. All the devices have the same 23 megapixel camera module, the side mounted fingerprint scanner and a two day battery life.

The Xperia Z5 has an octa-core Snapdragon 810 SoC with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and a 2900mAh battery. The Z5 Premium packs a 3430mAh battery and the ridiculous 806 PPI 5.5″ 4K Triluminos display. The Compact model has only 2GB of RAM and a 2700mAh battery.

Sony hasn’t still been able to shrink down the bezels as all the models have the IP68 and IP65 certifications. The Z5 comes in 146 x 72 x 7.3mm and 154g, the Premium measures at 154.4 x 76.0 x 7.8mm and 180g and the Compact is smaller in 127 x 65 x 8.9mm and 138g.

The color lineups differ between the models. The Z5 comes in Graphite Black, Gold, White and Green. The Z5 Premium will be available in Chrome, Black and Gold and the Compact has color options of Graphite Black, Yellow, White and Coral.

All the models support the LTE Cat 6 networks and the usual Bluetooth 4.1, NFC,MHL, DLNA and WiFi MIMO. The new Xperias also support MicroSD cards up to 200GB.
