At the Nexus event, Google also unveiled an Android-based tablet called Pixel C. The premium tablet competes with Surface and iPad Pro.
So there’s no Nexus tablet this year. Instead we get the Pixel C, a Google designed and built premium tablet running Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It has a 10.2″ 2560x1800p LCD display, NVIDIA Tegra X1 SoC, 3GB of RAM and a USB Type-C charging port. The industrial design is inspired by previous Pixel products with boxy angles and understated details. The bezels are relatively large and the back has the light bar previously seen in Chromebook Pixel. The bar shows battery charge when double tapped.
The keyboard is a paid accessory but a major selling point. It connects with strong magnets and can be adjusted to an angle between 100° and 130° without a kickstand. The keyboard charges wirelessly when folded against the tablet and doesn’t need to be charged via cable.
The Pixel C starts at $499 and the keyboard costs $149. Both will be available for holidays.
Google has just announced the anticipated Nexus phones, 6P and 5X. Both phones have a great 12MP camera and a fingerprint scanner.
As expected, Google released the new Nexus phones today. The devices share a lot of features but compete in different categories. Both phones have the same rear camera, fingerprint scanner and the USB Type-C charging port. They both also run the latest version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The camera sensor has 12.3 megapixels and 1.55µm pixel size for better low light images.
The Nexus 6P packs a 5.7″ 1440p QHD AMOLED display, metal unibody design, front facing speakers, Snapdragon 810 SoC and 3GB of RAM. The front facing camera has 8 megapixels and the battery capacity is 3450mAh. The phone measures at 159,4 x 77,8 x 7,3mm and 178 grams and will be available in October in four colors, white, aluminium, black and gold. Storage options are 32, 64 and 128GB.
The Nexus 5X has a 5.2″ 1080p LCD display, 2GB of RAM, 16 or 32GB of storage and a Snapdragon 808 SoC. The battery capacity is 2700mAh, front facing camera has 5 megapixels and the single speaker is located on the front. The device measures at 147 x 72,6 x 7,9 and 136 grams. Color options are white, black and “Ice Blue”.
Both devices will ship in October. The 6P starts at $499 for the 32GB model and the 16GB 5X comes at $379. The 6P competes against the very best flagships and the 5X will go against the phones like Moto X Pure Edition or OnePlus 2.
As we are getting closer to the official release, the Nexus 6P has started leaking even more. Now we have a complete slide show presentation about the bigger Nexus.
The full presentation, linked below, reveals almost everything we want to know about the upcoming Nexus 6P. Previously rumored 5.7″ QHD display and a Snapdragon 810 are confirmed and the impressive battery capacity, 3450mAh, is also leaked. USB Type-C and dual front facing speakers are also included as well as the storage and color options. The storage capacity options are 32, 64 and 128GB and the colors are the same that were leaked previously, white, aluminium, gold and black.
We were still missing some features but the rest of the presentation was uploaded to Google Drive. An AMOLED display, 3GB of RAM and 12/8MP cameras were leaked. Also the physical size of the device was included in the slides. The 6P measures at 159.4 x 77.8 x 7.3mm, slightly narrower and thinner than the Nexus 6 but the same in height.
All we are now missing is the price. The Nexus 5X will be the more affordable one but Google should have learned from last year, the Nexus 6 was just too expensive for some. The Nexus event is supposed to happen tomorrow and we will keep you posted.

This year’s Nexus event is getting closer and we are hearing even more rumors and leaks. The latest leak is about the colors of the new Nexus devices.
The Huawei built premium Nexus, the 6P has its metal body available in four colors, aluminium, black, white and gold. The difference between aluminium and white is really minor but most likely the colors will be different in real life. Other rumors still claim 5.7″ QHD display, Snapdragon 810 SoC and a great camera.
The more affordable, LG made Nexus 5X has a more understated plastic design and with it, plastic colors. The usual black and white have an “ice blue” color alongside them. In the rendered image, the color looks more like green but again, it has to be seen in real life.
The Nexus 5X is rumored to feature a 5.2″ Full HD display, 600-series Snapdragon SoC and a very affordable price tag. Google is expected to release the new Nexus phones on 29 September.

As expected, NVIDIA has released the full desktop grade GeForce GTX 980 for laptops. Unlike rumored, the graphics card is called just GTX 980, not 990M.
The GTX 980 shares the same specifications with the desktop version, 2048 CUDA cores, 1064MHz base clock and 4GB of GDDR5 at 1750MHz. The card will be available in the most expensive gaming laptops and even in SLI. NVIDIA is now driving the overclocking to the laptops as the card is completely unlocked like a desktop one.
Samsung has announced the 950 PRO, a high speed M.2 SSD. At the start there is two storage options, 256 and 512GB.
The new drives use the M.2 connection and attached to a PCI-E 3.0 x4 slot, they can reach the speeds of up to 2,500MB/s read and 1,500MB/s write. The 950 PRO is based on the second generation MLC V-NAND technology and it has 32 layers of 128Gb chips.
The drives will be available in October for $200 for the 256GB version and $350 for the 512GB model. A 1TB version will come later this year but it’ll use even more advanced 48-layer design and the new 3rd generation chips.
LG has announced the Class smartphone they teased last week. Premium looking metal body has mid-tier hardware inside.
LG Class packs a 5″ 720p IPS LCD display, Snapdragon 410 SoC, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. The 13MP rear camera and an 8MP shooter on the front should be able to produce decent pictures. The battery capacity is only 2050mAh.
The metal body measures at 142 x 71.8 x 7.4mm in size and 147 grams in weight. The front glass is curved and marketed as a 2.5D glass. The bezels and the camera bump are quite large. Color options are black, gold and silver and the price in Korea equals around $340. Availability is unknown.
The LG Class competes directly against Samsung’s Galaxy A series smartphones with the metal design, affordable price range and the small battery. The price range is very demanding. There’s Motorola and OnePlus options to compete but the Class has the premium metal design on its side.

Before the release of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 I wrote a comment in which I stated that I will get the new Note. Back then the rumors were that the Note 5 was going to feature a huge battery that would last a full day even with my usage. At the release event it was made clear that the Note 5 is going to have a smaller battery than its predecessor. The final hit was the fact that the Note 5 is not coming to Europe let alone Finland. Samsung Display has registered the brand ‘Turtle Glass’. Samsung might move away from the Gorilla Glass in the future.
Samsung has used Corning Gorilla Glass for years in their smartphones and tablets. However the collaboration might be over soon as the Samsung Display has registered Turtle Glass brand. Unfortunately we can just speculate at the moment because we don’t have any more official news.
It might be that the Gorilla Glass can’t be used in the upcoming foldable smartphone that Samsung is expected to launch as early as January. The Turtle Glass could just be a bendable glass for foldable smartphones.
Samsung does have a wide range of devices to use the new glass in if they really want to replace the Gorilla Glass. Not only smartphones and tablets need the durable glass but TV’s, smartwatches and PC’s could also use it. That would be a great business for the company as the other option would be buying the glass from outside the company.
